First, some boring email business- it sounds like these newsletters are getting sorted into spam and promotion tabs a lot? I suppose if you're seeing this then you're not having that issue, but just in case you've dug this up out of your spam folder- manually reorganizing the email to your main inbox, or adding me to your address book, should get this sorted properly in the future regardless of what email client you're using.
Now for the fun stuff!
If April was a jam packed rush then May has been a much more focused and mindful stroll. I only really had one big project on my plate (or at least only one that I've made real progress on) - my new set of felt terrariums! Here's some progress shots - a little reminder of the scraggly shrooms I had at this time last month, and lots of snapshots of the work I've done this month. It's been a lot! My hands are a bit achy! But it's also been really fun. I love fleshing these out with little details, making each scene unique. I'm paying a lot of extra attention this time to the shapes of things, the flow and silhouettes, the rhythm of the full set. I was originally planning on doing 10 scenes with 2 mushrooms each, but the mushrooms I made were a bit big for that (that's becoming an uncomfortable theme in these projects) and it's ended up as a set of 20 terrariums, all unique and hand crafted, by far the biggest set I've ever done.

The little bugs, especially, were a joy to make. Snails are always fun, and getting those beetles feeling properly iridescent was a delightful challenge. I think they add a lot of charm and character to the bell jars.
I originally wrote this newsletter thinking I wouldn't finish them this month, but here I am swooping in at the last minute to say they're done! I finished them on the very last day of the month, just in time to get some golden hour photos! Look at these beauties! I'm so proud!

Honestly I had a lot more planned for this month but about midway through a friend of mine died and it really threw me for a loop. At this point I'm all talked out on the subject. Suffice to say that grief is weird and unexpected, that it hits different every time, and that this time it made a lot of my artistic process feel very difficult and disjointed but made stabbing things repeatedly for hours on end really cathartic. I'm glad I could channel that lost feeling into something so charming, into little escapist places. It feels right, in a roundabout way.

On a lighter note, summer is almost here! The weather is brighter every day, and the view out my window has really filled out with green leaves and waves of flowers. I'm looking forward to some lovely days in the park, and to all the time I'll be spending at outdoor markets.
My goal for June is to be at markets every Saturday, and every other Sunday.
That means I'll be at PSM on the 1st, 2nd, 8th, 15th, 16th, 22nd, and maybe the 30th.
I'll be at Last Thursday on Alberta on the 27th.
I'll be at Rad Pride 2024 on Saturday the 29th, run by Portland's abolition market, which is a fundraising event for some local groups as well as some Palestine relief funds.
My big Summer shop update will be on the first day of summer, the solstice, on June 20. The new terrariums are joining me in the market immediately, and any that haven't sold by the 20th will go up on my shop then. I'll also be swapping my prints out for my Summer collection at that point, so if you've been eyeing any of my prints now would be a good time to grab them!
